Candle Fundraising Tips

Of primary importance...Keep things organized so that your fundraiser runs smoothly and efficiently.

Plan your strategy - Give yourself a few weeks of pre-planning before you start. Use the time to consider all aspects of your candle fundraiser. Consult with you manufacturer to determine logistics you might not have considered. We're here to help. Schedule your Candle Fundraiser around paydays when potential customers have more disposable income.

Organize all your volunteers - try to determine who among your participants have family members or friends willing to help volunteer in your fundraiser. Notices, letters, phone calls and face to face meetings will help assemble more reps. Keep it friendly, don't be pushy. Keep everyone posted about the starting and end dates as well as the deadlines for achieving your specific financial goals. If your Participants/Reps are primarily children/teens be sure to invite the parents to help. Make sure you provide sufficient order forms. Be clear in your communication and explicit in explaining goals to keep the campaign running smoothly. Show your appreciation for their participation and volunteer work.

Advertisements and promotions - Make use of all your available contacts to spread the word. Let people know about what you are doing and why you are doing it, giving yourself enough time so that news of your campaign gets around. Be certain to make use of the brochures we can provide. Consider additional posters or flyers posted around you neighborhood school, church, office, etc... You might ask local businesses such as super markets or convenience stores if you could put up flyers on their bulletin boards or in windows. Send out emails or put ads in your local newspaper.

Motivate your volunteers - You might consider offering some form of incentive [a giveaway of prizes, fun activities or a victory party] in order to keep your representatives motivated. There is no better incentive for harder work like a little healthy competition.

It is about the journey not the destination, so make sure it is an enriching experience for your volunteers, and they'll make themselves available for assistance on the next candle fundraiser!
